On Friday, June 17, shortly before leaving the office for a well-deserved weekend, we were unexpectedly visited by Raphaël Sévère. The young clarinetist from Paris had just performed as soloist at the 7th Concert of the New Lusatian Philharmonic at the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater in Görlitz. As Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” plays a very important role in his musical life, during his stay in Görlitz the musician was very keen to visit the Stalag VIII A memorial in Zgorzelec, where the quartet was premiered. During our conversation, we also managed to talk about future cooperation within the framework of Raphaël Sévère’s research project “Trio Messiaen” during the International Messiaen Days we are organizing. We are curious to see what will be born from this in the future!
