Worcation – creative and international work in a historical place.
There is much to do – digging, sweeping, cleaning, welding and bending and at the same time contemplating! But there is also a lot of fun – chilling out, having barbecues, swimming and exploring the magnificent region. All this combined and a lot more is what an international Workcamp has to offer. We called our Workcamp Worcation. It is an mixture of the words work and vacation. So it is about working for a good cause – the transnational rememberance, and at the same time meet people, make new friends and get to know a part of Europe.
Every Summer the MEETINGPOINT MUSIC MESSIAEN together with its European partners invites young people from different European countries to participate.
Worcation 2015 Programme
There are planned different workshop such as metall work, archaeology, and preservation work. In all these workshops you can learn new technics, cooperate with other young people from all over Europe and have a lot of fun.
Beside the work, there will be enough time for relaxing, sightseeing and enjoying a great summer time.

Worcation – Where is it taking place?
Everything revolves around a place, which has been almost forgotten for decades – the former prisoner of war camp Stalag VIII A in Zgorzelec (Ujazd).
It is here, where we want to clean the small cemetery, which should remind us about thousand dead soldiers – mostly from the Soviet Union – that were buried here namelessly. Here we also want to uncover the former barracks, in which approx. 120 000 soldiers had been registered between 1939 and 1945. On January 1941 in one of these barracks there had been played one of the most outstanding masterpieces of 20th century – “Quartet for the End of Time” composed by Olivier Messiaen. This French composer had been held as a prisoner of war in Stalag VIII A in 1940-41.
Worcation – When is it and how much does it cost?
Worcation takes place from August 1 to August 15, 2015 in Görlitz.
Depending from your country we ask you to pay a little participation fee from 30 to 70 Euro. Accommodation, food and the whole programme will be covered for you. We can’t reimburse any travel costs for you, but of course we can help you to find a cheap way to come to Görlitz.
Worcation – can I participate?
Are you from Italy, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina or Russia? Are you aged between 16 to 26? Than experience 15 days in the Twincity of Görlitz-Zgorzelec together with young people from all over Europe. Make new contacts and friends, learn about tolerance and confidence to one another and work in a team. Moreover you get to know the place and its history – the former prisoner of war camp Stalag VIII A. Together with others you are activly learning to better understand European History, which is still valid today and effects us all.
