03 Aug 18 WORCATION 2018 CONCLUDES
On the last Friday of July, we officially finished this year’s edition of Worcation organized by Meetingpoint Music Messiaen for the eleventh time in the row. Muliti-national group of youths shared their impresions of the two-week workcamp and honoured the victims of the Stalag VIII A prison camp.
Young people from France, Italy, Ukraine, Poland and Germany worked together for two summer weeks, engaging in a living culture of the memory of this place. The participants actively supported the excavation process in this area. With the help of archeologist, Paweł Zawadzki, they managed to discover two night toilets of camps barracks. During the ceremonial, paticipant from Italy, Giulia Morelli, presented the finds to the regional authorites and explained the phases of the obtaining process.
Everyday reaserch in the authentic place, the area of the former prisoner-of-war camp, where personal belongings are found to this day, Gwenn Fraser from Amiens – the partner town of Görlitz in France, described as “the opportunity to commemorate the victims of this camp.”
Landart piece, located between archaeological sites, as Eric Beier explained, made of “branches, leaves and bricks that were dug up by archaeologists, directly from Stalag VIII A grounds” was the place where the group of participants decided to declaim their collectivly written poem, inspiered by the place. Then Hubert Grabowski, the Polish participant, played the French horn.
At the end, everyone moved to the monument to lay flowers and solemnly commemorate the memory of the victims of the prison camp Stalag VIII A.
